Club Passim and Arabesque Mondays present:
Youssef Kassab with the SHARQ Arabic Music Ensemble
Friday, June 6, 8:00pm
Tickets: $20.00 (General Admission)
The Boston based SHARQ Arab American
Ensemble performs a
traditional Arabic Classical Music repertoire, featuring the instruments
OUD, QANOON, KEMAN, NAY and RIQQ
(lute, zither, violin, flute and tambourine)
The musicians play authentic, acoustic
string instruments and
hand percussion. The traditional Arabic compositions range from
medieval court music (Muwashahaat and Samai'aat)
to modern suites and songs (Abd Al-Wehab and Oum Koulthoum).
The musicians are natives of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Morrocco.
SHARQ combines improvisation (taksim)
with precise interpretations of important compositions.
The music is simultaneously educational and entertaining.
They are an exotic alternative to jazz and European quartets.
