Celebrating its 20th season, Legacy has become one of New England's premier youth companies, with an extensive repertoire of jazz, tap and hip hop choreography that carries on the rich traditions of the past while embracing cutting edge creativity. Added treats include director Thelma Goldberg and the Dance Technique dancers paying tribute to Singing in the Rain, special numbers by the Dance Inn faculty, and an appearance by the About Time Tappers, the Dance Inn's popular adult company. The show will spotlight the choreography of Thelma Goldberg, Jimmy Locust, Brenda Bufalino, Adrienne Hawkins, Lori LoTurco, Rony Jacques, Sheila Brotherston and Josh Hilberman. And the dancing doesn’t stop there, but continues into Sunday with Jane Goldberg, a pioneer of the tap renaissance, who will teach and sign copies of her new book, Shoot Me While I'm Happy. The Legacy Dance Company was started in 1989 by Thelma Goldberg and Rebecca Robichaud with the goal of developing a serious training program for young dancers, focusing on education and entertainment and with a mission of sharing the joy of dance with others. Over the past two decades, local performances have included: nursing homes, shopping malls, assisted living residences, annual holiday shows and recitals, as well as outdoor community events such as Discovery Day, the Patriot’s Day Parade and Artswalk. On the national stage, Legacy has performed annually at the New York City Tap Festival since 2000, the New York City Tap Extravaganza, the Chicago Human Rhythm Project, in addition to three visits to Disney World. Since 1995, Dance Inn Productions has annually produced “Tapestry,” New England’s premier National Tap Dance Day celebration, in which Legacy Dancers have performed with such notable tap artists as Brenda Bufalino, Dianne Walker, Sarah Petronio, Dean Diggins, Paul Arslanian, and Jane Goldberg, as well as master hoofers who have since passed on, including Buster Brown, Jimmy Slyde, La Vaughn Robinson, Jimmy “Sir Slyde” Mitchell and Sue Ronson Many Legacy Dance Company alumni have continued to dance in college, often times creating their own programs and companies and pursuing professional careers in dance. Sebastian Goldberg, a recent Legacy graduate, is now dancing with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, while other Legacy alumni, such as Crystal D’Abbraccio, Kelly Chadwick and Robin Sol have kept the Legacy mission alive by becoming dedicated dance educators.
